IAN "CRASHLEY"

1975 - Depiste the crushed front of the Frank Williams FW04-3, Ian Ashley escaped from this practice crash with only minor ankle injuries. He had recorded an impressive 7 min:15.9  seconds lap, only five seconds slower than his highly-rated team-mate Jacques Laffite.

As Hunt was known as "Shunt", so Ashley was nicknamed "Crashley". He was a fast but off times erratic driver who subsequently broke both his ankles in Canada in 1977. This ended his Formula 1 carrer. In the 1990s he returned to racing briefly in the British Touring Car Championship.
