ARCA 250

1966 - Daytona International Speedway ARCA 250 Stock Car race.

Johnny Roberts, Breckenridge, Michigan, suffered what was described as a mild concussion when his 1965 Ford flipped eight times and virtually disintegrated.

Roberts was released from Halifax Hospital five days later, after being held for observation.

Robert's bone-chilling crash in the 99th mile also came in the east bank. Another car triggered the accident by nudging Roberts from behind.

Roberts went sideways, careened down the 31 degree bank to the apron and on hitting the grass somersaulted  high in the air, going end over end over end. During the cartwheeling parts of the engine were spit out on the track, the rear wheels tore off, the front hood and rear hood flew off, and the car desintegrated.

Robert's seat belt and shoulder harness held firm, although as the car hurtled in the air one time he was almost wrenched out.
