OVER - THE - WALL

Some race nights at reading fairgrounds in Pennsylvania are more exciting than others. Consider this one, for example:

On a regular nightly show, a pack of cars were going into turn one when one of the cars in the lead got a bit out of shape; the two cars behind him brake hard while a third car, Gerald Chamberlain, pulled out to avoid plowing into the rear of the second car; Ronnie Paulson (on the outside of Chamberlain) pulled out to avoid Chamberlain; Bill Stief was launched over Paulson's wheels and started barrel-rolling; he caught the outer retaining wall with the front wheels, which put him up high, sending him through the outer aluminum fence into the parking lot, where two fans were listening to the radio in their Vega; when Stief came to rest, he reports that he thought he had died because he heard music, naturally, it was the music coming from the Vega's radio; what the two occupants of the car heard wasn't quite as pleasant; no one was hurt, however, and some young people have since found better places to listen to the radio ...
